Running the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon Tomorrow!
This time tomorrow I will be running my first half-marathon (13.1 miles / 21.098 kilometers).
I’m looking forward to it although I do feel a little under-prepared because:
- I haven’t run 13 miles before (max I have run recently is about 6)
- I’ve been on a training course for the past week – so no gym, lots of yummy food (lunch and dinner) and sitting in a classroom all day
- I have decided to not run with music and the Nike+ system (because in the pictures I’ve looked at of people running half-marathons, most don’t listen to music)
- I’m hoping it wont be too cold because I will be wearing shorts and t-shirt
- I don’t know how fast I should run (at which stages)
- I don’t know how much to drink (before and during)
- I don’t know what to eat before the event. Afterwards if Steve (who did a half-marathon last week in 1 hour, 40 mins) hasn’t gotten fed up with waiting for me to finish, I can probably persuade him to join me at a local pub and we’ll have some proper pub food!
On the plus side:
- I have been going to the gym 3 days a week since August
- I did a 4 hour Adventure Race last September
- I have lost 1.5 stone in weight since August
- I am pretty fit and mentally determined!
