Olympics 2012 – are you going?

Posted by Techboy on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

You have until the 26th April to apply for tickets to the London Olympics. I’m going to apply for the: Opening ceremony Cycling (velodrome – mens finals) Triathlon Anyone (who knows me) want to go with me? If so, let me know because I’m going to buy the tickets soon (maybe this weekend). I don’t mind [...]

Trading with the Bulls

Posted by Techboy on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

I have always wanted to find an easy, quick gain, low risk – high reward entry into the stock market. Until recently that seemed impossible, but now I think I might have found it… I am a self-confessed geek (hence the nick-name ‘Techboy’ – which Steve Bush at Barclays Bank PLC originally gave me). Before [...]

Introductory Winter Mountaineering Course (February 2011) – Update on Costs

Posted by Techboy on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

The worst part of going on holiday is planning them! In my previous post I detailed the projected costs of the travel for the mountaineering course that I’m going on. After literally quite a few hours of fiddling on www.thetrainline.com, various hotel companies (including www.lastminute.com, www.expedia.com. etc.) and www.quidco.com I have revised my travel plans to [...]

Decisions – Which New Mobile Phone Shall I Get?

Posted by Techboy on Friday, June 11th, 2010

I currently have an HTC HD (running Windows Mobile 6.1 OS) on the O2 network and my contact expires at the end of this month, which means that I can get a new phone. My preferences for a new phone fall into 3 categories: Android based, iPhone 4 and Windows Phone 7 based. Android I [...]

Finally – Life in HD!

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

After Sky messing up a couple of times (my first installation was due on 2nd October), I’ve finally got SkyHD up and running. Bring on 24 and Battlestar Galactica! I’ve also had confirmation from mobiles.co.uk that my HTC Touch HD order has been processed, so I should get it on Monday.

New Mobile Phone on the Way (HTC Touch HD)

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

I’ve ordered the HTC Touch HD from mobiles.co.uk. It was out of stock when I ordered it (Thursday) but is now showing as in stock, so I should get it in a few days. It is based on Windows Mobile 6.1, has a decent screen (resolution of 480×800) and a 528MHz processor (the iPhone has [...]

New Home Switch (hub)

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I’ve just got the D-Link DGS-1005D 5 port Gigabit switch for home use. I plugged it in and it is working fine – as it should. Plus it uses their new ‘Green Ethernet‘ technology which claims to use up to 44% less energy, which is a good thing. I’m using it to replace the Netgear [...]

I’ve got a new Home PC!

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Every couple of years I upgrade my PC. With the exception of my very first PC (a 486DX2 66MHz with 4MB’s RAM) I have upgraded/built the PC myself. It doesn’t work out any cheaper, it just means that I can custom pick every component that goes into it. A couple of weeks ago I upgraded [...]

The Whole Christmas and New Year Thing…

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I don’t like Christmas. First of all, I prefer to write ‘xmas’ because the word ‘Christmas’ is too long is too religious for my liking. I’m not a Scrooge by any means, but I don’t like the xmas period because: It’s a religious holiday and I’m an atheist. I haven’t met a single person who [...]

Received: Windows Home Server (HP MediaSmart Server EX475)

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I got my Windows Home Server yesterday and so far I am very impressed with it! At the moment I just have it next to my PC, but although it isn’t very noisy, I will probably put out of my bedroom and into a spare bedroom. The only negative about it right now is that [...]

Just Ordered: Windows Home Server (HP MediaSmart Server EX475)

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I’ve ordered the HP MediaSmart Server EX475 which is a Windows Home Server. The main reasons I’ve ordered it are to: Keep ‘proper’ and regular backups of all of my PC’s (currently 1 x Vista PC, 1 x XP laptop and 1 x Ubuntu PC) Stream content (videos, pictures and music) to PC’s while my [...]
